Tips for Getting a New Job in 2022

It’s no secret that the last two years has been full of many ups and downs. As we turn the calendar to 2022, many people are looking to make changes in their life, and one of those changes might be with their career. A new job provides a fresh start, and it might be the type of positive change that you need for your future. Here are some tips on landing a new job this year.

Know your value

If you are looking to make a career change, or simply want to find a different job in the same field, it’s important to remember that investing in your personal value is worth it. That might mean taking some time off for your mental and physical wellbeing. Or it might mean taking some classes to increase your knowledge on a specific topic in your field. Perhaps there are some certifications that you should work on getting that could make your resume stand out. Take stock of the aspirations you have for yourself and your job and make a list of action items that can help you get there.

Step out of your comfort zone

The ongoing pandemic has taught us that no matter how hard you try, you can never truly plan for everything. So, as you look at the future, it’s okay to embrace the fact that you don’t know exactly what might be thrown your way. This is an opportunity for you to take some new risks. It can be hard to do this during a time of uncertainty, but it could also be the leap you need to take into the career that you’ve always dreamed of. So, consider what your gifts, talents, and experience is and determine what roles combine all of those. Be open to the idea of applying for a job that might be a bit out of your comfort zone. The sooner you open your mind to this, the better chance you have of finding a great job.

Revamp your resume

When was the last time you took a close look at your resume? Make sure it is up to date, accurate, typo-free, and easy to read. Look at your reference list and adjust accordingly. Also, consider adding volunteer work or other job-specific trainings, courses, or certifications that you have completed. This is your first opportunity to introduce yourself to a potential employer, so focus on making a strong first impression that can lead to an interview date.
