The Importance of Agency Transparency

Consumers today value transparency. Whether it’s with a product they are looking to buy, interviewing a candidate for a job, or reading online about a company’s expertise, authenticity is valued and expected to build loyalty and encourage word of mouth referrals.

The same goes for agencies working in the domestic staffing industry.

The Peril of Care.com

Recently, the well-known website and job platform, Care.com, faced difficulty when the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) acted against them and some of their business practices.

The FTC claimed the company deceived caregivers who were looking for jobs while failing to give families seeking care a straightforward option to cancel their paid memberships. In the federal court complaint, the FTC asserts that Care’s marketing messages about both the number of jobs available on their site and the amount workers could expect to be paid were misleading.

While Care.com published a statement refuting some of the claims made by the FTC, the company agreed to pay a settlement of $8.5 million, which will be used to refund users negatively impacted by their practices.

The company will also be required to back up the earning claims it makes and be transparent about the number of open jobs on the website. However, Care.com has stated this will not change any of their current business practices.

This case demonstrates the importance of transparency in business; both clients and job seekers deserve it.

Why work with a vetted agency?

When our experienced team of recruiters at Household Staffing begins working with new job candidates to find new roles, we often hear that they come to us because of their frustration with prospective employers offering low wages but expecting the best of the best.

For example, they’ve met with employers who are expecting certifications or college degrees in childhood education, or they want to hire someone who has years of experience – yet they only want to pay them just above minimum wage.

Or we hear about candidates who go through the application and interview process, just to be ghosted by the prospective employer. The candidate is left hanging, wondering if they got the job or if the employer has moved onto another candidate. This can be disheartening for qualified candidates looking for work.

The converse is also true. Sometimes prospective employers spend time setting up appointments and clear a time in their busy schedules to make that happen, research the interviewee and pay for background checks, and then the candidate doesn’t confirm the interview is on, or worse – doesn’t show up once the appointment is scheduled. When this happens, employers are inconvenienced and may even feel concerned that they won’t find a reliable employee.

At Household Staffing, we value authenticity and honesty and work hard to showcase jobs that provide livable wages in healthy home environments that are conducive to growth. We work hard to vet our employers before the job even posts, ensuring that they are willing to pay for quality and offer a respectful work environment that prioritizes a healthy work-life balance.

To do this, we offer jobs with clear descriptions of required duties and tasks, and we don’t offer any jobs that pay less than $25 per hour. In fact, our candidates on average earn 25% more than the industry standard rate.

Our recruiters work alongside you to find the right job match for your specific experience and will only present the most qualified individuals to employers for an in-person or virtual interview.

The same goes for our employers. We prioritize finding reliable candidates that are trustworthy, experienced and ready to do their best. In fact, we work hard to only place candidates that we would employ in our own home – and that means a lot.

Once the employer chooses to move forward with a candidate, our team at Household Staffing performs an extensive screening process that includes nationwide criminal records investigation, a nationwide sex and violent offenders search, driving record report, and social media search.

Safety, respect, and honesty are our goals – both for job candidates and employers.
