How to Interview A Housekeeper Candidate

Hiring a housekeeper for your home can be a life-changer! Whether you’re looking for a full-time live-in housekeeper or someone that comes bi-weekly, an experienced housekeeper will provide reliable cleaning and organization services that your busy home can benefit from.

Before you hire an employee, you will need to determine what kind of questions to ask them during the interview. This will help you get to know them and figure out if their experience aligns with what you’re looking for. Here are some of the most important questions to ask potential housekeeper candidates.

Ask the candidates about how they handled workload.

When you meet with your candidate, ask them how they manage their time and various duties during the day. Try to get a feel for how they structure their day and see if it aligns with your schedule. Look for someone that is organized and detailed, as this will help ensure that the projects and duties you give them will be completed well and on time.

Ask about flexibility.

While routines are important, sometimes your housekeeper will need to be flexible. What happens if there is an urgent cleaning or organization project that takes precedence? Ask your candidates how flexible they are during the workday to meet different demands that your busy household has. Staying flexible, while maintaining the same level of productivity is important in a housekeeping role.

Get a feel for their enthusiasm.

Talk to your candidates about why they are excited about the potential position in your home. Does the candidate enjoy working and living in an uncluttered space? How long have they been working as a housekeeper? Look for eagerness and excitement for the position and for their career as a housekeeper. Someone that doesn’t show interest in the role is probably not someone you want to work in the home.

Ask about their qualifications.

You should already have a good idea of what the candidate’s qualifications are before the interview. But it’s a good idea to talk in more detail about them when you’re together.  This gives them the opportunity to explain about some of their past experience, give details about certain jobs they’ve had, and give you an idea of their expertise.

Talk about their energy and their passion for their career field.

Housekeepers need to have plenty of energy, as the job requires quite a bit of physical labor. So, take not of their energy level to make sure there won’t be a struggle with laziness or motivation. Consider asking them questions like this:

-What do you do with constructive feedback?
-What sets you apart from other housekeepers?
-What are some of your favorite things about being a housekeeper?
-Why do you like your career?
-How would you describe your standards in housekeeping?

An experienced housekeeper will be such a help to your busy household. And by asking the right interview questions, you’ll be able to narrow down your candidate search and ensure that the right person is hired for the job.
