Here’s a common question our experts at Household Staffing often hear: I’m interested in hiring domestic staff but unsure what I need. Where do I start?
We recognize that each client is different and the needs of each household varies. We will first need to learn a little bit more about your household so we can work closely to determine what will work best for your family or business needs. This ensures we place the right team of staff in your home.
Here are some questions that we might ask you during our conversation, or some things that you should think about when it comes to hiring someone to work in your home.
- How large is your home? How large are the grounds? Is there a pool or other distinguishing features?
- Do you have multiple properties and do you need help managing your estate?
- If you have multiple properties, how do you divide your time at each place?
- What kind of staff do you currently have?
- Have you had staff in the past?
- How many people live in the home and do you have any children or pets?
- What are the responsibilities you would like to get rid of?
- What are responsibilities you prefer to keep to yourself?
- Are any of the properties or homes under construction?
- Do you have specific indoor or outdoor expectations?
- If you’re moving, do you have staff to retain from your previous property?
- Do you have space for live-in staff?
- Is your home formal or informal?
Types of household staff to consider:
Housekeeper
At the bare minimum, most clients will need a housekeeper (maybe more depending on the size of the home and size of the family). A housekeeper helps things clean and organized inside busy households and can work on a part-time or full-time basis, live-in or live-out.
Estate Manager/Household Manager
If you need assistance helping run your estate – including the land, vineyards, vehicles, boats, or jets – we can help find a qualified, trustworthy, and experienced estate manager or household manager. This person will help with overseeing maintenance appointments at the home or on the property, assist with managing finances, or supervising staff and staff scheduling. This person is usually a natural leader and often the ‘right hand’ person that works alongside the principal in the home.
Chauffeur
A Chauffeur or Driver is hired to drive the principal and family to appointments or other destinations. This person may also have a background in security.
Private Chef
The Cook or Private Chef is hired to prepare meals for the household. This person will work alongside the principal to determine any dietary needs or restrictions, will meal plan, shop for ingredients, and then oversee the food preparation and serving each day. This person may also oversee cooking for special events in the home.
Personal Assistant
If you need additional help to run errands, respond to emails and phone calls, oversee all calendar operations including making business or personal appointments, book travel, and manage accounts, a personal assistant is vital to your daily needs.
Tutor/Private Educator
Some households choose to educate their children through private tutors and educators that work inside the home full-time, one on one with the student.
Each of these individuals plays a key role in the smooth functioning of your home each day and with our personal approach, you can rest knowing we’ll introduce you to candidates that meet your requirements.
