Tips for Planning Baby’s Arrival

If you are expecting a new baby, you are probably feeling a mix of emotions: excitement, joy, and a bit of fear. While you are waiting for your little one to make their debut into the world, it’s a great idea to plan some things in advance to plan for their arrival. Soon, you will be able to meet your baby and get to know their personality, and the more you are prepared, the better you’ll feel about the start of parenthood.

Learn about the birth process.

The prospect of giving birth can be overwhelming and for many parents – especially pregnant mothers – this can be one of the scariest parts of welcoming a new baby. Consider taking a birth class, research the stages of labor, learn about breathing techniques, and find out your options for pain management. You can also learn about the different options for giving birth, such as water birth, natural birth, c-section, or birth with an epidural. Come up with a birth plan, but keep in mind that things might change based on factors you can’t control once the baby starts making its way out.

Communicate with your partner.

You and your partner should set aside some time to talk about the birth plan, expectations after having the baby, and beyond. Whether it’s discussing how to help during labor, how many visitors you want to visit your home or the hospital, or lining up childcare when going back to work, make sure you are both on the same page. Differing expectations can cause conflict in a time that is already full of changes and adjustment.

Plan on hiring extra help.

If one or both of you plan on going back to work after the baby is born, be sure you research your childcare options well ahead of time. Hiring a nanny is one of the best things you can do!  A nanny provides one-on-one care in the comfort of your own home! But it takes time to find the right person to care for your baby, so allow for that. Household Staffing experts will listen to your exact needs and preferences for a potential nanny and will work to find the right match as soon as possible. Another thing to consider is hiring a housekeeper to help keep up with the day-to-day household duties. This allows you to spend quality time with your baby and will help lighten the load so you can continue to bond and adjust to your new life together.
